Welcome to my ramblings…

About me? My name is Erin and I live in Illinois, in the heart of the midwest in the United States. I grew up in a middle-upper class family in a very safe, comfortable suburb. I played tennis, went to prom and went just far enough away to college that Mom and Dad couldn’t drop in on me whenever they wanted to.  My dream was to get out of Illinois and go live in Colorado. The mountains called me.

Fast forward 20 years.

Dreams evolve. Perspectives change. Gratitude happens.

I never dreamed in a million years that I’d still be living in Illinois, but I’m happy. I’m near two nephews and a niece. I live an hour from my mom, just close close enough.  I earned my Bachelors degree in social welfare from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and my Master’s degree in Social Work from Aurora University.  I sat for my boards in clinical social work and professionally I can write the letters LCSW after my name.

I bought my first home in 2016 and before that I prioritized every single penny I had for travel and became a collector of moments. I realize every day how lucky I am to have been born into a family that allowed me to pursue my dreams and prioritized education. I realize how fortunate I am to be able to have a job that gives me chunks of time to travel.

I host my home on Airbnb and really enjoy doing my own home improvements. I’ve learned how to lay flooring, strip walls, sand boards, change light fixtures, and hang cabinets…. all from YouTube videos and the confidence that came from the hammer my dad put in my hand when I was little.

I’ve traveled to 36 countries on 6 continents. (I’ll get to Antarctica, don’t you worry). I’ve done a majority of my travel solo, but some has been done with friends or family.

I don’t have a travel “goal” and I don’t have a “bucket list”. I just want to be present for as much as I can. I don’t want to wait to retire to travel. I don’t want to save for 3 years to take a one week cruise and never SEE where I’m going. I don’t want to stay at the Ritz Carlton and be afraid to go into a dive bar/restaurant to taste the local flavor.  I don’t need excess and fancy to be my travel goal. I just want to be, to see, and to collect every moment I can.

I hope you’ll enjoy my ramblings.
